Editorial policy
How our strain guides are researched, written, reviewed and corrected.
A source for every claim
Every factual claim carries a numbered citation to the page it came from, listed with the date we opened it. We prefer primary sources: state lab data, breeders' own pages, sales-data publishers and interviews with the people involved. When sources disagree, we show each account and say who holds it instead of picking a winner.
Our own data
Our state-lab potency statistics are an analysis of public lab results (Cannlytics cannabis_results, CC BY 4.0), using the rules in our lab data methodology. Breeder specifications and other published potency descriptions are separately attributed. Flagship guides include store counts and prices from a dated snapshot of Weedmaps menus, described in our store availability methodology. Our lab and menu statistics are calculated when a page is built. Each guide links its available lab data: a per-test CSV when original rows are available, or a labelled aggregate JSON summary.
How pages are written
Guides are researched and drafted by the Official Cannabis editorial team with the help of AI research and writing tools, working only from the sources cited on the page. Copy is written in our own words; we do not reuse other publishers' text.
Review
Each guide names its assigned editor and shows its review status. A page is marked reviewed only after the editor has checked its claims against the cited sources. Pages that touch health, such as effects, side effects and medical questions, also need review by our medical reviewer, Dr. Blane Schilling, MD, and remain pending until the required reviews are complete.
Health content
We report what users, breeders and studies say about effects, and we attribute each statement to its source. We do not claim that any strain treats, cures or prevents a condition, and our guides are not medical advice.
Independence
No one pays for coverage, rankings or reviews. Our disclosures, including our publisher's Weedmaps shareholding, are on the About page.
Art and characters
Flagship guides have original character universes made under our art direction with generative tools, including Ideogram for images and Seedance for video. Universe art excludes consumption, decorative cannabis leaves, real people and existing characters. Some single-page guides use labelled AI-generated editorial illustrations with botanical or citrus motifs; these are artwork, not product photographs. Merchandise follows the universe-art rules and never carries a strain name.
Corrections and updates
To report an error, write to editorial@officialcannabis.net. When we find or are told about an error, we fix it, update the page's "Last updated" date, and note significant corrections on the page. Lab statistics are refreshed when the source dataset updates, and store snapshots are refreshed on a schedule and dated wherever they appear.
